Rhonda Cantu Rhonda Cantu

Elemental Events Inc.

Rhonda and I met at the Centre Club for about an hour. She told me that she had been in retail management for many years. She was excellent in her job. But, she was not fulfilled. She wanted to be more creative. She wanted to be able to bring people together to accomplish common goals. Rhonda told her husband how she felt and he told her to quit her job and go out and do what she wanted to do! So, Elemental Events was born! You can see by these testimonials how much she loves her new business:

Diane Marie Cavanaugh, Business Development, Marketing, Public Relations, Cavanaugh Consultin“ I would like to recommend Rhonda Cantu for all your weddings and special events. In a time where everyone seems to do the "minimum required", Rhonda goes above and beyond all your expectations. With her always sunny attitude, creativity and great follow through, you can be assured the job will not only be done well; it will be done the best! In addition, I respect Rhonda for using her talents for charitable events, including "The Spring". When people are that unselfish, you know she will care for your causes and events the same way. Please give her a call and give her your business! Diane Cavanaugh Consultant” May 3, 2009

Shane Saunders-CITRMS, Worksite Voluntary Benefits Account Executive, Colonial Life  “Rhonda is a true professional that cares about her client’s needs and desires. I love referring Rhonda because I know she will take care of anyone I recommend her too. She saves her clients money and stress, while putting on an excellent event. I call her the "Wedding Planner of Professional Events" because she puts the same care and personal touch into her events as a wedding planner does when planning weddings. You will happy with the service that Rhonda provides.” April 28, 2009

Joe Malinowski, Broker, Pre Paid Legal Services Inc.“Rhonda has been a tremendous help to me and I appreciate her very much. She is an outstanding addition to our leadership team.” April 2, 2009

Aida Achin (aachin@benefittitle.com) of Benefit Title Services Met with me at Centre Club for SOC Training. She only had a few minutes. However, we were able to cover setting up a marketing campaign.

Jim Jacobs

Westshore Communications Corp.Jim Jacobs

Jim and I met at the Centre Club and visited for about an hour. Jim is really a nice guy. He is an independent mobile phone representative and he can find the best deal for you. He is active in the Neighborhood Networks organization.

I had “Lunch with the Expert!” John Teixeira, Perry Financial Group

John Teixeira

The Centre Club Business Committee arranges for experts in their field to hold a lunch meeting once a month. John fits into that classification very easily. While we enjoyed a great Centre Club lunch, John explained different investment methods using the stock market. He was open to all questions and did very well in fielding them. A few days later, John and I met at the Bistro to get to know each other better. He came from Boston 3 years ago because the Tampa weather is much more to his liking. While in college, he thought that he would like to go into Operations Management. But, after interviewing with the Perry Financial Group, he knew that financial management is where his heart is.

John says, “Our mission is simple…..To serve the needs of successful executives, business owners and affluent individuals seeking a single resource for comprehensive wealth management strategies. We pride ourselves on our ability to integrate and organize every aspect of our clients' financial lives and are committed to providing a meaningful experience for each of our clients.”

Gary Teaney

Transformational Consulting for Business

Gary is always a delight to visit with. He and I met about a year ago at the Profit Pros BNI. We have had a chance to meet face to face several times over that period and I always feel good after meeting with him. I asked Gary to explain what he does in consulting business. This is the way he explained it:

“Our initial Consultation is done over two meetings.

In the first meeting we get to know each Gary Teaneyother.  I discover the areas you want us to focus on, where your company is now and where you want it to go. This meeting generally takes two to four hours. If the time we have spent together warrants, for you and for us, at the end of the first meeting I pick up four years of your P&Ls and Balance Sheets. I analyze them and share my findings with you in our second meeting.

In the second meeting we review what you want to accomplish from my involvement with you. We go over your Financials and the areas which require immediate improvement. This meeting lasts from two to four hours. At the end of this meeting you let me know if I have succeeded in addressing the areas you wanted improvement. When I present you with the $1250 invoice, you decide if you received the value from our meetings. If you feel it has been worth it, you pay the invoice. If not, you pay nothing. It's that simple. We only want relationships were we can be of benefit.“

Sam Belyea (Sam@massageredefined.com)

Massage Redefined

Sam was trained at Tampa Bay Technical High School in the medical arts, majoring in Physical/Occupational Therapy; graduating with both an 'Honors' status and a certification as a Physical Therapy Aide. From there, he pole-vaulted into Massage Therapy School at Erwin Technical Center, during his time there he was awarded with numerous Principal's Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance recognitions as a reflection of his scholastic and time-management skills.

Displaying an adeptness for Reiki energy work, he offers this subtle yet powerful energy through his hands during massage sessions, adding a secret touch to his work. In his off-time he has found a niche in Shamanic energy work, specifically working with animals, plants, and the three main realms of consciousness. Weaving Reiki and Shamanics, as well as Chakra work and intuitive energy balancing, he has created a "redefined" energy work all his own, which he offers as a service at Massage Redefined, LLC.

While in school for Massage, Sam came across Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage and was trained in the art by Alice Belusko. Taking it one step further, using the elbow and forearm techniques, paired with creative adaptations of his own design, Sam has created an "Integrated Hawaiian Massage" style. This variation has the ability to go intensely deep or be a flowing, relaxing paradise! A session from Sam, whether it's Reiki or Massage, isn't an ordinary experience, it's a true therapeutic awakening.

Michal Rhodus (michal.rhodus@gmail.com)

Team One Realtors

FOCUS ON YOU

Michal and I have been friends for over a year. We originally met at a South Tampa Chamber event. She is a great Realtor and a fun person to be around.

We met at the Centre Club to review SendOutCards. She has been a customer for over a year but wanted to do a review of the program with me.

Of course, I asked her what makes her so successful in her Real Estate business and she told me, “I'm committed to serving my clients. I work toward one goal… to make sure you're pleased with your home. I can provide a complete lineup of in-house services, from contract right through closing. It's top-flight professionalism at every step on everything you need.”

Chris Shultz

Chris Shultz (cshultz@stanleyworks.com)

Stanley Security Solutions

Chris and I met at the Profit Pros BNI. He wanted to learn more about SendOutCards and became my newest customer. I’ve known Chris long enough to know what he does in his business. In fact he is the top sales person in his company. I asked him how come he is so successful. His answer…

“We approach every prospect with a consultative approach, identifying all of the loss prevention concerns, designing the system(s) to address those concerns, and offer the solution to the prospect. We at Stanley C.S.S. understand that all businesses have different concerns, therefore resulting in different solutions.”

Kim Kenney (kim.kenney@investfinancial.com)

Baughman Financial Group, Inc.

I was really impressed with Kim during our meeting at the Centre Club. She has really come a long way in her life because of her determination. She has set her goals and she will meet or exceed them. She is a very compassion person as well. She has set up another side of her business life where she will provide free service to those who need her help. She is now in Italy on vacation but will return by the end of June. Here is what her company says about her:

“Special Needs Planning focuses on the need to provide for the special needs of loved ones with disabilities when parents and guardians are no longer able to organize and advocate on their loved one's behalf.

Kim Kenney, Financial Advisor and Special Needs Planner of Baughman Financial Group, is committed and dedicated to assisting families in the coordination of all components that will provide for the quality of life and dignity for your loved one.

Kim and her team of professionals will assist you every step of the way and to navigate through each element of the process.

Kim is a Registered Representative of INVEST Financial Corporation.”

April Manning

Word By Word Creative

This was another fun visit. April and I met at the Circle of Success. I was immediately interested in her business. And so, I could hardly wait to do a face to face meeting with her. We met at the Centre Club and we had the chance to visit for about an hour. Her business is writing the text for websites, training manuals,  marketing, advertising, public relations, video/multimedia and much more. She is a very nice person to work with. I asked her about her experience in this field and she told me…

“I’ve worked with, literally, more than a hundred clients over the years. One thing I’ve learned is that each client is unique. As your copywriter, the last thing I’ll do is start writing. First, I’ll take the time to learn about your business, your expectations and your needs. I want to understand your target audience, underlying issues, past challenges and something of your corporate culture. Compelling copy has the power to communicate, educate and motivate. You’ll get copy that makes your customers and clients take action, copy they’ll respond to. As a freelance writer, I can write your copy quickly and accurately. And I’m proud to say I’ve never missed a deadline. Not once, ever. I personally write every assignment, so you can be sure your vision for your project is honored every step of the way.”

Kathy Pawelkop Kathy Pawelkop (kathy.pawelkop@kw.com)

Keller William Realty

Kathy was one of my first customers with SendOutCards. I met with her at her Keller Williams Realty office to do a review of the features that SendOutCards offers. Kathy had heard about my granddaughter Madeline’s heart operation. I had mentioned that Madeline likes butterflies. So Kathy had a couple T-Shirts designed with butterflies on them and mailed them to Madeline. Madeline loves them!!!DSCN2015 DSCN2046

Here’s Madeline right after surgery and then two weeks later erasing her name off the hospital board as she leaves to go home.

Kathy and her son, Nathan, have a very successful team at the South Tampa Keller Williams Office. How does she do that in the present ecomony? She states…

“Our knowledge of Tampa and the surrounding areas allows us to service clients in many different parts of the city. Not only do we sell homes in Tampa we have a large network of agents that you can work with all over the United States. If you or someone you know needs assistance with a Real Estate transaction please contact us. The greatest compliment that our friends and clients can give us is a referral.”

Joe Fernandez Joe Fernandez (Joe@objectiveplanner.com)

Certified Financial Planner

Joe and I also met at the Centre Club. We are scheduled to meet again after the 4th of July…

Joe began his career in financial planning in 1994, working with American Express Financial Advisors in Tampa, Florida. Building his financial planning practice from the bottom up, Joe had acquired over $20,000,000 in assets under management within the first 10 years and catered to the needs of over 180 clients. As time went on, Joe began to grow frustrated with the “corporate agenda” and felt that he could provide a much higher level of service to his clients if not influenced by the needs of the firm. Today, Joe works independently of any one company, integrating the financial planning process with total objectivity in the choice of both product and advisor relationship. Independence within the context of the financial planning process means that his clients can be assured that they will enjoy the same beneficial relationship with a trusted and knowledgeable advisor, yet in a totally objective and unbiased environment.

Eric and Kelly Hendra

Eric and Kelly Hendra (kelly@hendraassoc.com)

Hendra & Associates, Inc.

This is the first Husband and Wife team that I’ve had a chance to meet with at the Centre Club. I met Eric at the Profit Pros BNI. Kelly is also a BNI member but at another chapter in St. Petersburg. Kelly is the marketing arm of the business and Eric is the engineer. They are both really enjoyable to be around. We had a really good visit. I hope to be able to meet with them again soon. I asked them how they met. They told me how mutual friends had introduced them because they seemed to have so much in common. Their friends were right! Here is what they do…

Eric is a General Consulting Engineer with wide range of experience in private and public sectors. He engineers everything from commercial site plans design to disaster services to coastal & scientific diving work. He is a licensed Professional Engineer with 20 years of hands on experience. To put it in plainly, if you have rain water running into your garage, Eric will go to your home, survey the land and design a plan to keep the water out of your garage. If you need to build a seawall for your property, he can handle that as well.

Rob West

Rob West (robert.west@micorp.com)

M&I Bank

Rob and I first met at the Bernini’s FNI in Ybor City a year ago. We’ve kept in touch. But this week was our first face to face meeting at the Centre Club. Rob is doing very well in the banking business. However, his first love is coaching and teaching. He is currently working on getting a Doctorate Degree and teaching at night.

I have been in the banking industry for 8 years. Before banking, I was in retail management for 7 years with Wal-mart, Sneaker Stadium/Just for Feet, Dollar Tree, and Adidas. I am currently attending the Adjunct Academy at the University of Virginia and I am starting a doctoral degree program in organizational leadership.

For the first time in Madeline's life, she has pink toes!! Her toes have always been purple because of her poor circulation, but she looks just as pink as a brand new baby. Madeline is in recovery but doing well! She should be in ICU probably for the rest of the week, and then she will move to a private room. We are all happy the surgery is done and has been a success thanks to the prayers and thoughts that you have offered in her behalf.

She is doing really well!!

The surgery took 6 hours. The doctors stated that they were able to accomplish all that they set out to do.

Thanks again!!!

This is a photo of my granddaughter, Madeline. Madeline will be 5 years old on the 23rd of June. But, before that event, she will be going through her third heart operation. You see, Madeline was born with only two working chambers in her heart. Her first two operations where designed to keep her living until she grew big and strong enough to go through her third operation which should be good for the rest of her life. That event is occurring on June 2nd. Please keep Madeline and her doctors in your prayers for the successful completion of her operation and her full recovery. Madeline's recovery is expected to keep her in the hospital for two to three weeks.

Madeline loves butterflies. Her room at home is covered with butterfly decorations. When we celebrated her fourth birthday last June, she called it her "Happy Butterfly Day"! Please take a moment of your time to wish Madeline a speedy and complete recovery from her surgery by sending a card to her with your personal thoughts. If your card has butterflies on it, that will make it even more special to her.

Her address is:

Christine Kruger-Leonard

Christine and I met at the Centre Club this afternoon so that I could learn more about her and her business. She is a Family Service Counselor with Blount & Curry Funeral Home. I met her at the Neighborhood Network meeting last Thursday in Carrollwood. Christine was born in Canada but spent her Junior High and High School years in the Virgin Islands. She then moved to the United States and lived in the Kentucky/Tennessee area before moving to Tampa eleven years ago. She had been a Mary Kay representative and a Capitol One employee before finding her niche with Blount & Curry Funeral Home. Christine has been with them for four years and loves her calling.
Why would anyone want to do what Christine does? Well, there are many reasons. I think the best one is that she can empathize with those who need her services. Her father passed away unexpectedly while driving home from work. His truck was found in their cornfield. He had suffered a heart attack and drove off the road to prevent his vehicle from hitting others. He died as the truck came to a stop. Unfortunately, her dad and mom had not made any plans for what should be done when either of them died. Later, Christine's uncle passed away. And, he and his family had everything planned in advance. His funeral and burial all went smoothly with no surprises or unexpected and unplanned decisions or expenses.
Christine really enjoys being able to help people going through this sorrowful time in their lives. She reaches out to them to calm their stress and give them the help they need to make these trying decisions. She really feels that she has not only done her job but is very blessed when a family member gives her a big hug and thanks her for making the funeral reflective of their deceased.

Laura Sienkiewicz

This morning Laura and I met at the Centre Club for a nice visit. I met Laura a couple of months ago at the Circle of Success which meets at Mimi's in Carrollwood every Thursday morning. She works for EMS (Electronic Merchant Systems). Laura likes to help the small guy get big guy credit card service. She can even set up home based business with the ability to take credit card payments without all of the extra fees that most companies charge. Laura's husband is an entrepreneur who has developed his own business called Credit Union Consultant. They have two children ages 19 and 17. Bill Deloatche

I got a chance to visit with Bill Deloatche this morning at the Starbucks on Bay to Bay here in Tampa. I hadn't seen Bill in over a year. His name popped up on my contact manager recently but instead of sending him a card, I sent an e-mail to him asking if he would be willing to meet face to face. He agreed and we had a great visit this morning. Bill told me about his new job with Reliant Medical Systems. He is the Regional Sales Director for the company. They sell MRI, CAT, X-ray and several other types of medical equipment to medical offices. Bill's the man to contact if you or anyone you know should need that kind of equipment.

Bill had a opportunity to travel to India recently. He told me about how poor most of the people are and what kind of "houses" they had. He was really impressed with the roads and traffic. But, not in a good way. The last day in India, his employer, the employer's spouse and Bill traveled for four hours to see the Taj Mahal. He told me some really interesting stories about the history of that tomb.

I didn't know this before. Bill is a motorcycle enthusiast. He likes to take day trips on his bike with about 8 to 10 of his friends. I had noticed that the skin on back of his hands had a oval tanned spot. I had been thinking that if he were a golfer that could explain one hand having a tan like that. But, until he mentioned that he rode motorcycles, I couldn't figure out why he had a tan on the back of both hands.

We also talked about out families. Bill is really proud of his children. His oldest daughter is a lieutenant in the Air Force. She finishing up dental school and will go on active duty as a Captain. She may also be getting married later this year to another Air Force Officer. Her fiance is in flight school right now. His son is an architect and is really enjoying his work and he is really feeling fortunate that he has work in this economy. The youngest daughter is doing very well in college and is going to San Diego for the summer to take some courses that are not offered here.

Bill and I had a really great visit. I really enjoyed my morning with him at Starbucks.

Mattie McPherson

I had a great 1 to 1 (1 to 1 is a non-virtual meeting where two humans actually meet face to face) with Mattie McPherson this morning. She told me about her Pre-Paid Legal business and I told her about my SendOutCards business. But, we really spent most of our two hours together talking about our lives, family and life in general. Mattie is really in tune with God's spirit and it was really refreshing to visit with her. In the course of our visit, she shared several touching stories of occasions where she was guided by the Spirit to reach out to others and how she was able to touch their lives as she was also touched by theirs. While I was answering a question about SendOutCards, she popped in with a story about how SendOutCards had touched her without even sending out a card. Mattie's husband, Sam, was in Texas on a job. And Mattie hadn't seen him in three weeks. They had never been separated that long before in their marriage. So Mattie decided to send Sam a SendOutCards greeting. She went to the website, chose her card and started to write the words that she wanted to share with Sam. She became so overwhelmed by the thoughts of missing her husband and trying to put her feelings into words that she stopped typing and called the airlines, got a ticket and flew out to see him instead! SendOutCards are powerful even when you don't send them!!!

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Chad and JoLyn Hansen passed through Tampa several months ago on their way to a seven day cruise to the Caribbean. We met briefly the Sunday that they boarded their ship. I asked them if the cruise was to celebrate their anniversary. They said no but that it was a vacation. So, I asked when their anniversary would occur. They told me that it would come up on May 1st. I posted this information into my SendOutCards Contact Manager. Seven days before the anniversary I received a reminder via SendOutCards e-mail. I logged onto SendOutCards.com and found an appropriate greeting card, added a small box of brownies and clicked the send button. Seven days later I found a voice mail on my cell phone from Chad that lasted about five minutes. He and JoLyn had been "blown away" by finding a box of brownies and the "perfect" Happy Anniversary card on their front porch. It arrived right on their anniversary. They were not expecting anything. So, this really caught them by surprise. At the end of the voice mail, they asked me to call them. A couple of days later I called them and after thanking me again, we visited for about an hour over the phone. Now, I have two new good friends in Salt Lake City. This is the power of SendOutCards. Send an unexpected card and make someone's day. They may even call you back and make your day, too!

Clean Your Monitor Correctly

I know you don't get to clean your computer screen very often and it is really hard to do the inside, so for an immediate inside cleaning...click HERE!

There...now, isn't that better?

Online Social Networking

Many of us are using social networks as another source of keeping in touch. I use Plaxo, Boomj, and daily I'm receiving invitations from many more. There seems to be a new one opening almost every day.

For my professional side, I use LinkedIn. One of the features of LinkedIn is that it has many GROUPS that you may join. Below is an article published by LinkedIn:

Here are 5 ways to get the most out of your groups memberships:

1. Commit to a couple of groups focused on your key professional interests. LinkedIn groups provide the opportunity to collaborate with professionals you would otherwise never meet - and with current and former coworkers, all in the same professional environment. Pick a couple of interests about which you're most passionate and jump into the action of groups focused on those interests. Many of our most active members find their participation in the right groups directly enriches what they do at work.

2. Follow other groups. Groups provide a great way to keep track of what your fellow professionals have on their mind and what news they think is notable. Subscribe to the digest emails summarizing the activity of the group. Use the new tools for "Following" to keep an eye on the specific discussions you care about most. I use this a lot myself to monitor the flow of key discussions from my work email so I can jump in quickly at the right moment.

3. Use the news. Posting news is one of the best ways to participate in groups - it takes less thought and work up-front than starting a discussion, and groups provide an easy way to get your fellow professionals' take on an article or blog post... or to gain additional reputation for your take. Post a couple of articles a week that catches your interest while browsing the Web, the newsletters you get, your RSS reader, your Facebook feed, or Twitter. Now that managers can add RSS feeds to their groups, suggest they include your favorite news source or your own brilliant blog.

4. Involve your coworkers. You've invested a lot of time building up professional trust with your coworkers, both past and present. Invite four (or more) coworkers with whom you usually discuss your favorite professional interests to join you in the broader collaboration in your LinkedIn group.

5. Learn about your fellow LinkedIn members. LinkedIn groups are unique because they're special contexts within the world's largest professional network. Take full advantage of that by clicking through to the profiles of fellow members, sparking conversations about what they're working on, and as relationships develop - inviting them to become connections.

LinkedIn groups are powerful ways to get noticed and enrich your professional network in these difficult economic times. One of their favorite success stories is this one from the Wall Street Journal blog.

Oprius

If you are like me, you have the best intentions for keeping in touch with your family, friends, customers and prospects. But it seems like someone always slips "through the cracks". In the past, I've designed my own systems to keep in contact. However, they get complicated as my contact list grows. I've tried using some systems that are way too large and complicated and expensive for my small business and I've wasted way too much time trying to figure how to adjust them to fit me.

Well, for the past 6 months, I have been using a contact management system that is really great! It's easy to learn and to use. It handles all of my contacts (no limits), my calendar, phone calls, tasks, e-mail, and plans (campaigns). It connects all of these features to my contact so that when I open his file I can see everything that I've done with this contact and everything that I plan to do with the contact in the future.

It's a really cool application not only designed for small businesses but priced for small businesses as well. You can even try it for 30 days for free before submitting your credit card information.
